Cookie Policy

Last updated: October 2, 2026

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. We also use similar technologies: browser local storage, tracking pixels (small scripts from advertising platforms), and identifiers carried in links. In this policy, "cookies" covers all of these. For how we handle personal information more generally, see our Privacy Policy.

2. How we ask for your consent

When you first visit, a banner asks you to accept or decline analytics and advertising cookies. Strictly necessary cookies, and a small number of our own first-party measurement cookies (see Section 3), are always set. Analytics and advertising cookies from Google, Hotjar, LinkedIn, Meta and Reddit are only set if you click Accept. Your choice is saved in your browser so we don't ask on every visit, and you can change it at any time (see Section 5).

Google Consent Mode

We use Google Consent Mode. The Google tag loads on every page, but until you accept it is told that analytics and advertising storage are denied. In that state it does not set or read Google Analytics or Google Ads cookies. It still sends Google limited signals without cookies, such as that a page was viewed or a conversion happened, along with your IP address and browser details, as any web request does. Google uses these to produce aggregated, modelled measurement. If you arrive from one of our Google ads, the ad click ID may be carried in the page address as you move around the site, so that the click can be credited if you accept later.

Meta and Reddit

The Meta Pixel and Reddit Pixel only load after you accept. Until then, if you arrived from a Meta or Reddit ad, the ad click ID is kept only in your browser's memory, not in a cookie or storage, so the click can be credited if you accept during that visit. It is discarded when you close the tab. Once you have accepted, if you are signed in or have entered your email in a form, the Meta Pixel also sends Meta a hashed copy of your email, name and phone number with page views. We also send page view, sign-up and purchase events to Meta and Reddit from our servers (their "Conversions APIs"), including a hashed copy of your email address, your IP address and browser details. We only do this for visitors who have accepted. See the Privacy Policy for more on what is shared and why.

3. Cookies we use

4. Local storage

We use your browser's local storage to make the platform work and to remember your progress, for example:

  • Code you have written in exercises, coding tests and the Python playground, so it is not lost if you refresh
  • Quiz progress, hints revealed, sidebar layout and which introductions you have already seen
  • Your cookie choice (cookie-consent)
  • A random ID and visit count for our free tools (qtt_tool_vid, qtt_tool_visits), used to measure how the tools are used
  • A Meta ad click ID (_fbclid), stored only after you accept cookies

Local storage stays in your browser until you clear it.

5. Changing your choice

You can change your choice at any time here:

Checking your choice…

Declining stops analytics and advertising cookies from being set, and stops events being sent to advertising platforms, from that point on. It does not delete cookies already in your browser; you can delete those in your browser settings. Most browsers also let you block cookies altogether, though some parts of the site, such as signing in, will not work without strictly necessary cookies.

You can also manage advertising preferences directly with Google, Meta, Reddit and LinkedIn.
